May = The Kentucky Derby

One of my favorite things about the month of May is that it's Kentucky Derby time. Since I was a little kid, it's been a tradition in our family to follow the horses. Not for gambling, but to watch the sheer beauty of the horses and see champions in motion. It's a breathtaking thing to watch.....

I wanted General Quarters to win - there's such a great human interest story behind this horse. But Mine the Bird pulled one of the biggest upsets ever in the Derby history. This was out of the blue - I never heard one commentator or racing expert mention this horse. But when he really started to make gains in the race and then started to pull ahead, this horse looked a true champion. He knew what his purpose was for this day and he made it happen. What a perfect ending!
